The Three Lochs Drive near Balquhidder Mhor Lodges

posted on

The Three Lochs Forest Drive is a spectacular scenic route, a hidden gem for locals and tourists. It provides an immersive journey through lush forests, tranquil lochs, and breathtaking landscapes, and is only a short drive from Balquhidder Mhor Lodges.

The drive is an easy 7 mile off road track suitable for all vehicles, and it takes in the three lochs of:

- Lochan Reòidhte

A small, quiet lochan surrounded by dense woodland. Great for wildlife spotting and short strolls.

- Loch Drunkie

The largest and most dramatic of the three. Offers multiple car parks, picnic areas, and several walking and cycling trails. Known for beautiful reflections and forest viewpoints.

- Loch Achray

A tranquil loch beneath Ben Venue, popular with photographers for its mirror‑like water and views toward Tigh Mor and the Trossachs Kirk.

Along the way there are picnic spots to stay and also some short hikes:

  • Achray Trail (¾ mile / 1.2 km):  A short woodland walk with views over Loch Achray and toward Ben A’an.

  • Pine Ridge Trail (1 mile / 1.5 km): A steeper climb through young pines with excellent views over Loch Drunkie.

With thanks to Forestry Sctland, here is a short filem of the drive: Three Lochs Drive
