Callander - The Gateway to the Highlands

Callander - The Gateway to the Highlands

Just a beautiful 20 minute drive south along the shore of Loch Lubnaig from Balquhider Mhor Lodges is the picturesque town of Callander. A Scottish market town, it is most closely associated with the infamous Rob Roy Macgregor, Scotland’s favourite outlaw who was born and lived nearby. Discover the Rob Roy story, buy Scottish crafts and local produce in the bustling high street, and then escape to the peaceful banks of the River Teith for an impromptu picnic.

These are some of our favourite things to do when visiting Callander:

Walks

There are two brilliant short walks starting from above Callander, on the road up past the golf club.

- For fantastic views above Callander, the route to take is know as "Callander Crags" and check out the Jubillee cairn at the top...the Victorians were a clever lot!

- Another beautiful idyllic walk is the circular route of the Bracklinn Falls to check out a spectacular waterfall and gorge

Grub

You really are spoiled for choice. The fish and chips with a cuppa tea is great at Mhor Fish. But check out the award winning pies at Taste of The Trossachs

Fashion

Mmmm...OK....outdoor clothing.....we always pop into CCW on the main street. Very stylish outdoor gear...more than just Kagools!

Art & Decor

You must check out #Hashtag. We have bought some lovely art there for the lodges. Also, for a taste of the Scottish jewelery, check out The Wee Gem

Of course there are many more things today including pubs, resturants, sweet shops et al. For more information, check out the Callander Tourist information i Centre
